Station Facilities

Although Walkden is one of the busiest and fast-growing stations on the line, its facilities are basic. However, the situation has steadily improved over the last few years including Help-Point, Ticket Machine, electronic information displays, tannoy, anti-pigeon netting, and CCTV.

Facility Provided Notes
Bicycle Lockers A cross indicating this facility is not provided at Walkden. Two bicycle hoops are available on the pavement immediately outside the station entrance.
Car Park A cross indicating this facility is not provided at Walkden. Currently no station car park, but FoWS have helped facilitate a deal for former council land on nearby Chestnut Avenue to be converted to a car park by TfGM. As at August 2017, detail plans for the car park are still being prepared. In the meantime, on-street parking can be found in the area around the station.
CCTV Cameras A tick indicating this facility is provided at Walkden. In September 2010 high quality CCTV cameras were installed on the platform and in the Booking Hall. The number of cameras was increased by Northern Rail in summer 2011. We are extremely grateful to the Little Hulton and Walkden Community Committee, and Northern Rail, for their joint funding of the CCTV camera installation.
Disabled Access A cross indicating this facility is not provided at Walkden. Walkden station does not provide level access: the stairway to the platform includes nearly 50 steps. Please see our Disabled Access page for more details.
Help Point A tick indicating this facility is provided at Walkden. In December 2011 a Help Point was installed on the platform as part of GMPTE's Station Improvement Strategy.

Refreshments A cross indicating this facility is not provided at Walkden. FOWS have joined with Crumbs, Cafe Chino, and Cafe Relish (all within a minute's walk from the station) to offer discounts for rail passngers holding a valid ticket.
Real-time Information Displays A tick indicating this facility is provided at Walkden. Real-time information displays were installed at Walkden in December 2011 as part of GMPTE's 2010/11 Station Improvement Strategy.
Shelter A tick indicating this facility is provided at Walkden. The platform has a canopy and a bus-stop style shelter.
Staff On Site A tick indicating this facility is provided at Walkden. The station booking office is manned Mon-Fri from 0610 to 1240, Sat 0710 to 1340. The staff are very knowledgable and able to assist with journey planning and purchasing advance tickets, as well as selling tickets on the day of travel.
Tannoy System A tick indicating this facility is provided at Walkden. In December 2009 a local PA system was installed at Walkden, allowing announcements to be made whilst the Booking Office is manned. Automated annoucements before each train were added in December 2011.
Ticket Machine A tick indicating this facility is provided at Walkden. In January 2012 an automatic ticket vending machine (accepting card payments only) was installed by Northern Rail.
